What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit

What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation

If you’re considering chiropractic care for the first time, you may be curious about what happens during your initial visit. At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX, we aim to make your first chiropractic appointment a comfortable, informative, and effective experience. Understanding what to expect during your initial visit can help ease any anxiety and ensure you get the most out of your treatment. Here’s a detailed look at what typically happens during your first chiropractic visit.

1. Initial Consultation and Health History Review

The first step in your chiropractic journey is a thorough consultation. This part of your visit involves a detailed discussion about your current symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and overall goals for chiropractic care. The chiropractor will ask questions about your pain or discomfort, such as:

  • How long have you been experiencing these symptoms?
  • What aggravates or alleviates the pain?
  • Have you had any previous injuries or surgeries?

This consultation helps the chiropractor understand the root cause of your pain and develop a personalized treatment plan. At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, we take the time to listen to your concerns and explain how chiropractic care can help improve your condition and overall well-being.

2. Physical Examination

After the consultation, your chiropractor will conduct a physical examination to assess your posture, range of motion, muscle tone, and spinal alignment. The chiropractor may use various techniques such as palpation (hands-on examination) and orthopedic tests to identify areas of tension, misalignment, or restricted movement.

This exam is crucial in determining the underlying cause of your discomfort. In some cases, the chiropractor may also check your reflexes, neurological function, and muscle strength to ensure a comprehensive assessment. This helps create a clear picture of your overall health and the biomechanical dysfunctions contributing to your pain.

If necessary, Sync Chiropractic offers in-house diagnostic tools like X-rays or ultrasound to get a more detailed view of your spine or affected areas.

3. Diagnosis and Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on the information gathered during the consultation and examination, your chiropractor will provide a diagnosis and discuss a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. This plan may include a series of chiropractic adjustments, lifestyle recommendations, and exercises designed to improve your mobility and reduce pain.

At Sync Chiropractic, we believe in transparent communication. Your chiropractor will explain each step of your treatment plan, including the expected number of visits and what results you can anticipate. This personalized approach ensures that your care is designed to address not only your current symptoms but also the root cause of your condition.

4. Chiropractic Adjustment

In most cases, your first chiropractic visit will include a chiropractic adjustment, the cornerstone of chiropractic care. During this procedure, the chiropractor will use their hands or a specialized tool to apply controlled, quick force to specific joints, usually focusing on the spine. The goal of this adjustment is to improve alignment, reduce pain, and restore proper function.

Don’t worry if you hear a popping sound during the adjustment—that’s simply gas being released from the joints, similar to cracking your knuckles. While the adjustment is generally painless, some patients may feel mild soreness afterward, which usually subsides within 24 hours.

For patients in The Woodlands, Spring, and Conroe, Sync Chiropractic offers a variety of adjustment techniques, ensuring that your treatment is as comfortable and effective as possible.

5. Post-Treatment Care and Recommendations

After your adjustment, your chiropractor will offer post-treatment care recommendations. These may include stretches, exercises, or tips to improve your posture and prevent future injuries. For instance, you may be advised to perform specific rehabilitation exercises or use heat or ice packs to manage any lingering soreness.

Your chiropractor may also discuss lifestyle factors such as your diet, exercise routine, and stress levels, which can impact your recovery and long-term health. At Sync Chiropractic, we believe in a holistic approach to health, helping you integrate wellness into every aspect of your life.

6. Follow-Up Appointments

Chiropractic care is often most effective when done consistently. Your chiropractor will recommend follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed. These follow-up visits will be shorter than your initial consultation but will include additional adjustments, reassessments, and any necessary changes to your rehabilitation routine.

At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, we offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your busy lifestyle. Whether you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, or recovering from an injury, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Why Chiropractic Care Saves You Money: A Cost Comparison

Why Chiropractic Care Saves You Money

When faced with pain or injury, many people turn to physicians or physical therapists for relief. While these options can be effective, they often come with higher costs, especially when insurance, co-pays, and additional tests are involved. Chiropractic care, on the other hand, offers a more cost-effective solution that addresses the root of the problem without the need for invasive treatments or expensive medications. In this article, we’ll explore how chiropractic care at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX can save you money compared to traditional medical approaches.

1. Lower Treatment Costs

One of the most significant benefits of chiropractic care is that it’s generally more affordable than visiting a physician or physical therapist. A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic care costs significantly less than traditional medical care for treating back pain. On average, a visit to a chiropractor costs around $65 to $150 per session, depending on the treatment and location. In comparison, an office visit to a physician can range from $150 to $300, not including additional tests like X-rays, MRI scans, or prescription medications.

In The Woodlands, Spring, and Conroe, Sync Chiropractic offers affordable care without sacrificing quality, allowing patients to address their pain and mobility issues without the hefty price tag that comes with traditional medical care.

2. Fewer Diagnostic Tests

When you visit a physician for back pain or joint issues, it’s common to undergo a series of diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRI scans, or blood work. These tests can add hundreds or even thousands of dollars to your medical bill. While these tests may be necessary in certain cases, chiropractors typically rely on hands-on assessments and physical exams to diagnose the underlying issue, minimizing the need for costly tests.

At Sync Chiropractic, we use thorough physical examinations and advanced chiropractic techniques to identify the root cause of your pain, ensuring that you only undergo necessary tests if required.

3. Avoiding Surgery and Medications

One of the key advantages of chiropractic care is that it offers a non-invasive, drug-free approach to treatment. Many patients seek chiropractic care to avoid costly surgeries or long-term reliance on prescription medications. Surgeries can cost tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention the added costs of hospital stays, anesthesia, and post-surgical rehabilitation.

In contrast, chiropractic adjustments, shockwave therapy, and active rehabilitation offered at Sync Chiropractic can help alleviate pain and improve mobility without the need for invasive procedures. Studies have shown that chiropractic care is often just as effective as surgery for conditions like herniated discs and sciatica, making it a more affordable and less risky alternative.

Additionally, by avoiding long-term prescription medications, patients save on the ongoing costs of drugs, which can quickly add up, especially if they are not fully covered by insurance.

4. Lower Insurance Costs and Co-Pays

Another significant cost-saving factor is insurance coverage. Many health insurance plans cover chiropractic care, and the co-pays are often lower than those for visits to a specialist or physical therapist. For example, co-pays for chiropractic visits typically range from $20 to $40, while co-pays for a specialist or physical therapy session can be $50 or more.

Moreover, chiropractic care can lead to fewer visits overall, as patients often experience faster relief with chiropractic adjustments and rehabilitation exercises than they would with traditional medical treatments. Fewer visits translate to fewer co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses, resulting in long-term savings.

At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, we work with a variety of insurance providers to ensure that patients in The Woodlands, TX, and surrounding areas get the care they need at an affordable rate.

5. Faster Recovery Time

Patients who seek chiropractic care often experience faster recovery times compared to those who pursue traditional medical treatments. By addressing the underlying cause of pain, chiropractic adjustments can relieve discomfort more effectively, reducing the need for repeated doctor visits or extended treatment plans.

This quicker recovery not only leads to lower overall costs but also means less time off work and fewer disruptions to your daily life. In fact, a study published in the Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation found that patients who received chiropractic care returned to work faster and had lower overall healthcare costs than those who pursued traditional medical treatments.

Conclusion

When comparing the costs of chiropractic care to traditional medical approaches, it’s clear that chiropractic care is often the more affordable option. With lower treatment costs, fewer diagnostic tests, and quicker recovery times, chiropractic care at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX can save you money while providing effective relief from pain and injury.

If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to manage your pain or improve your mobility, consider scheduling a consultation at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation today. Our team of experienced chiropractors can help you achieve your health goals without the financial burden that often comes with traditional medical treatments.

The Right Way To Make A Stretch Count

How to Make Stretches Count with Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation

Stretching is an essential part of maintaining flexibility, improving mobility, and preventing injuries, but the way you stretch can make a huge difference in the results you achieve. At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX, we encourage patients to incorporate effective stretching techniques into their daily routines to enhance recovery and overall wellness. Here are some key tips on how to make your stretches count and optimize their benefits.

1. Warm Up Before Stretching

One of the most common mistakes people make is jumping straight into stretching without warming up. Stretching cold muscles can increase the risk of injury and reduce the effectiveness of the stretch. Before you begin stretching, engage in a light warm-up, such as walking, cycling, or doing a few minutes of dynamic exercises to get your blood flowing.

Warming up helps increase blood circulation and makes the muscles more pliable, allowing for deeper and more beneficial stretches. This is particularly important if you’re recovering from an injury or managing chronic pain, as cold muscles are more prone to stiffness and tension.

At Sync Chiropractic, we always recommend a proper warm-up before any therapy or stretching routine, ensuring that your body is fully prepared to maximize the benefits of each stretch.

2. Hold Your Stretches Long Enough

To truly benefit from stretching, it’s important to hold each stretch long enough to allow the muscles and connective tissues to respond. Ideally, each stretch should be held for 20 to 30 seconds, and then repeated two or three times per muscle group. Rushing through stretches won’t allow your muscles to relax fully or elongate as intended.

When stretching, focus on slow, controlled movements rather than bouncing, as this can cause the muscles to tighten rather than relax, increasing the risk of strain or injury. Proper stretching is about creating length and relaxation, not forcing the body into positions it’s not ready for.

For patients at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, we often incorporate active rehab and myofascial release techniques to complement stretching, helping to alleviate tension and improve muscle flexibility.

3. Target All Major Muscle Groups

Many people focus solely on the legs, hamstrings, or lower back during stretching, but it’s important to target all major muscle groups for balanced flexibility. Stretching the neck, shoulders, chest, hips, and calves ensures that your entire body benefits from the flexibility gains.

Neglecting certain areas can lead to imbalances, which can increase your risk of injury. For example, tight hips or hamstrings can contribute to lower back pain, while limited shoulder mobility can affect posture and lead to neck discomfort.

At Sync Chiropractic, we create personalized rehabilitation plans that focus on improving flexibility and range of motion in every muscle group, ensuring a comprehensive approach to healing and prevention.

4. Focus on Proper Form and Breathing

Proper form is critical for effective stretching. Incorrect technique not only reduces the stretch’s effectiveness but can also lead to injury. Ensure that your posture is correct, and avoid forcing your body into uncomfortable positions.

Equally important is breathing during stretching. Breathing deeply helps your body relax and allows your muscles to lengthen more effectively. Inhale deeply before beginning a stretch and exhale as you ease into it, helping to reduce tension and enhance flexibility.

Our chiropractors at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX, guide patients on how to maintain proper form during stretching exercises, emphasizing breathing techniques to improve the overall effectiveness of each session.

5. Incorporate Stretching into Your Daily Routine

Stretching isn’t just for before or after workouts—it’s something you should do regularly to maintain flexibility and mobility. A daily stretching routine can help prevent stiffness, improve posture, and reduce the risk of injury. This is especially important for those who sit for long periods, as prolonged sitting can lead to tight hip flexors, hamstrings, and lower back muscles.

Even a short 10- to 15-minute stretching session can make a significant difference in how you feel throughout the day. Consistency is key to seeing long-term improvements in flexibility and mobility.

At Sync Chiropractic, we work with our patients to develop stretching and rehab routines that fit their lifestyle, helping them stay active and pain-free in The Woodlands, Spring, and Conroe.

What You Need to Know About Personal Injury

Know More: Auto, Motorcycle, Commercial, and Slip and Fall Accidents

Personal injury cases encompass a wide range of accidents and injuries, from auto collisions to slips and falls in public or commercial spaces. If you’ve suffered an injury due to someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Understanding the various types of personal injury claims, including auto, motorcycle, commercial accidents, and slips and falls, is essential for protecting your rights and seeking the compensation you deserve.

1. Auto Accidents

Auto accidents are among the most common causes of personal injury claims. Whether it’s a minor fender bender or a serious collision, the aftermath of an auto accident can be physically, emotionally, and financially draining. Victims often face medical bills, rehabilitation, and lost income due to time away from work.

Key factors in auto accident cases:

  • Liability: Determining fault is crucial in auto accidents. Liability may fall on one or more drivers, depending on the circumstances. Gathering evidence such as police reports, eyewitness accounts, and photographs of the scene can help establish responsibility.
  • Insurance: Filing a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance company is typically the first step in seeking compensation. In Texas, drivers must carry a minimum of $30,000 in liability coverage per person and $60,000 per accident. However, if damages exceed this amount, a personal injury lawsuit may be necessary to recover the full costs.
  • Damages: Compensation in auto accidents includes medical expenses, vehicle repair or replacement, lost wages, and in some cases, pain and suffering.

If you live in The Woodlands, Spring, or Conroe, TX, Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation can assist in managing recovery and addressing the physical aftermath of your auto accident.

2. Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents often result in more severe injuries compared to auto accidents due to the lack of protection for the rider. Common injuries include broken bones, road rash, spinal cord damage, and traumatic brain injuries.

Key factors in motorcycle accident cases:

  • Helmet Laws: Texas law requires all riders under the age of 21 to wear a helmet. For those over 21, helmets are not mandatory if the rider has completed a motorcycle safety course or has sufficient health insurance.
  • Injury Severity: Because injuries are often more serious in motorcycle accidents, victims may face long-term or permanent disabilities. In addition to immediate medical costs, victims may also seek compensation for ongoing care, rehabilitation, and loss of earning capacity.
  • Negligence: Often, drivers of other vehicles fail to see motorcyclists or give them the right of way. If another driver’s negligence led to the accident, you could be entitled to compensation.

Sync Chiropractic can provide ongoing care for recovery, including chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy, to help restore function and mobility after a motorcycle accident.

3. Commercial Vehicle Accidents

Accidents involving commercial vehicles, such as delivery trucks, buses, or semi-trucks, can be more complex than standard auto accidents. These cases often involve larger companies, multiple insurance providers, and more significant damages due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles.

Key factors in commercial vehicle accident cases:

  • Corporate Liability: In many cases, the employer of the commercial driver may share responsibility for the accident if improper training, maintenance issues, or overworking the driver contributed to the crash.
  • Severe Injuries: Due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles, injuries sustained in these accidents are often more severe. Victims may suffer traumatic injuries, leading to long-term medical treatment or disability.
  • Insurance and Compensation: Commercial vehicles often carry higher insurance limits, which may provide more compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and long-term care.

Seeking medical attention immediately after a commercial vehicle accident is crucial, and Sync Chiropractic is here to provide treatment options, including shockwave therapy and active rehabilitation, for your recovery in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.

4. Slips and Falls

Slip and fall accidents can occur anywhere, from grocery stores to office buildings. These accidents often result from hazardous conditions such as wet floors, uneven surfaces, or poor lighting. Property owners have a legal responsibility to maintain safe environments for visitors, and failure to do so can result in a personal injury claim.

Key factors in slip and fall cases:

  • Premises Liability: The property owner or manager may be held liable if they failed to address unsafe conditions or provide adequate warning. In Texas, property owners owe a duty of care to visitors, and failure to uphold this duty can lead to liability.
  • Injury Severity: Slip and fall injuries can range from minor bruises to severe fractures, head injuries, or spinal damage. These injuries often require significant medical treatment, and victims may need compensation for medical bills and lost wages.
  • Evidence: To build a strong case, it’s essential to gather evidence such as photographs of the hazard, incident reports, and witness statements. This documentation will be critical in establishing fault and proving the property owner’s negligence.

At Sync Chiropractic, we specialize in helping patients recover from slip and fall injuries by providing personalized rehabilitation services to aid in their recovery.

We Can Help You!

If you’ve been injured in an auto accident, motorcycle crash, commercial vehicle collision, or a slip and fall, it’s important to seek both medical and legal advice promptly. 5 Reasons to Get Shockwave Therapy at Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation

Top 5 Reasons to Get Shockwave Therapy

If you’re looking for a highly effective, non-invasive treatment for pain relief and tissue healing, shockwave therapy is worth considering. At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in The Woodlands, TX, we provide advanced shockwave therapy to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain, sports injuries, or joint issues, this therapy can accelerate healing and restore your body’s function. Here are five reasons why you should consider getting shockwave therapy at Sync Chiropractic.

1. Effective for Treating Chronic Pain

Shockwave therapy is especially beneficial for patients suffering from chronic pain conditions, such as plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and shoulder pain. By using sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue, this treatment helps break down scar tissue and calcifications, promoting better blood flow and reducing inflammation. Unlike medications that merely mask pain, shockwave therapy addresses the root cause, providing long-lasting relief.

At Sync Chiropractic, we customize treatments for conditions like Achilles tendinitis, tennis elbow, and knee pain, ensuring that you receive targeted care that accelerates recovery. This therapy is perfect for those who want to avoid pain medications or invasive procedures.

2. Non-Invasive Treatment with No Downtime

One of the biggest advantages of shockwave therapy is that it is completely non-invasive. There are no incisions, injections, or anesthesia required, which means no downtime after treatment. You can walk out of the clinic and resume your normal activities the same day.

Many patients prefer this therapy over surgical options, which often come with longer recovery periods and higher risks. Shockwave therapy at Sync Chiropractic allows you to treat pain and injuries effectively without the side effects associated with more invasive treatments.

For residents of The Woodlands, Spring, and Conroe, Sync Chiropractic offers a convenient location for accessing this cutting-edge therapy without long trips to a specialist.

3. Accelerates Healing and Tissue Regeneration

Shockwave therapy does more than just relieve pain. It actually stimulates your body’s natural healing process by promoting cellular regeneration and increasing blood circulation to injured areas. The sound waves used in this therapy encourage the formation of new blood vessels, which are crucial for transporting oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissues. This process speeds up tissue repair and helps reduce inflammation.

If you’re recovering from a sports injury, such as runner’s knee or a rotator cuff tear, shockwave therapy can help you heal faster. At Sync Chiropractic, our skilled chiropractors and rehabilitation specialists assess your condition thoroughly to ensure that your therapy is optimized for maximum results.

4. Improves Mobility and Function

Joint stiffness and limited mobility are common problems associated with chronic pain and injuries. Shockwave therapy helps to restore movement and flexibility by reducing pain and inflammation in the affected joints. Over time, this leads to better overall function and improved quality of life.

For those suffering from frozen shoulder, hip pain, or knee arthritis, shockwave therapy can be a game-changer. The treatment helps break down adhesions and scar tissue that restrict movement, enabling patients to regain mobility without undergoing surgery.

By choosing Sync Chiropractic for your shockwave therapy, you’re partnering with a team that specializes in restoring mobility and function through innovative, non-invasive treatments.

5. Safe and Proven Treatment

Shockwave therapy is backed by years of research and has been proven to be effective for a wide range of conditions. It’s been used in clinical settings for over two decades and is FDA-approved for treating musculoskeletal disorders. The therapy is well-tolerated by most patients, with minimal side effects, usually limited to mild soreness or bruising in the treated area.

At Sync Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, you can feel confident in knowing that our team is trained in administering shockwave therapy safely and effectively. We ensure that each patient receives personalized care tailored to their unique condition and needs.

How Chiropractic Care Can Improve Your Health and Well-Being

Why Chiropractic Is For You

In today’s fast-paced world, many people suffering from pain often look for the most convenient and expedient relief. Unfortunately, this has contributed to the overuse of opioids, resulting in the ongoing opioid epidemic. When these medications stop providing the desired relief, individuals often turn to alternative treatments such as chiropractic care. However, despite its effectiveness, many people are still unaware of the full benefits chiropractic care offers.

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to managing pain and improving overall health. It targets the biomechanical dysfunctions of the body, which can arise from various injuries or conditions. Whether you’re dealing with lower back pain, neck and shoulder discomfort, or recovery from a car accident, chiropractic treatments can offer substantial relief while preventing the need for more invasive procedures like surgery.

Conditions Chiropractic Care Can Treat

Chiropractic care isn’t limited to treating back pain alone. Here are some common conditions that can benefit from chiropractic treatment:

  • Lower Back Pain: One of the most well-known areas where chiropractic care excels. Adjustments can alleviate discomfort and improve mobility.
  • Neck and Shoulder Pain: Many people experience tension and pain in these areas due to poor posture, stress, or injury. Chiropractic adjustments can help relieve muscle tension and correct alignment.
  • Leg & Knee Issues: Chiropractic care can target imbalances and mechanical dysfunction in the legs and knees, often associated with poor alignment or injury.
  • Car Accidents: Chiropractic treatments are highly beneficial for those recovering from car accidents, particularly for issues like whiplash and joint pain.
  • Pregnancy: Pregnant women can experience significant relief from chiropractic care, helping to reduce discomfort in the lower back and pelvis.
  • Infant Bodywork: Chiropractic care can also help newborns, especially those with conditions like torticollis or tongue-tie, easing tension and promoting proper muscle function.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care

One of the most significant benefits of chiropractic care is its ability to not only relieve symptoms but also address the underlying issues causing the pain. By correcting the body’s alignment, chiropractic care can:

  • Prevent Surgery: By addressing biomechanical dysfunctions early on, chiropractic care can often help patients avoid surgery for musculoskeletal issues.
  • Affordable Treatment: Chiropractic care tends to be more cost-effective compared to surgical options or long-term medication usage.
  • Improved Mobility: Chiropractic adjustments can restore mobility, making daily activities more comfortable and reducing the risk of future injuries.
  • Drug-Free Pain Relief: Chiropractic care provides a natural alternative to medications, reducing the risk of addiction and side effects.

Common Chiropractic Treatments

Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to address pain and dysfunction. These treatments are tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient. Some common chiropractic treatments include:

  • Manual Adjustments: The cornerstone of chiropractic care, manual adjustments involve using controlled force to realign the spine and improve function.
  • Myofascial Release: A hands-on technique used to release tension in the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding muscles.
  • Cupping Therapy: Involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which promotes blood flow and eases muscle tension.
  • Dry Needling: This technique involves inserting fine needles into trigger points to release muscle tension and promote healing.
  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM): This involves using specialized tools to treat soft tissue injuries, improving flexibility and reducing pain.
  • Electrical Stimulation: This therapy uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscles and nerves, reducing pain and speeding up recovery.
  • Active Rehab: Rehabilitation exercises designed to restore strength, flexibility, and function after an injury.
  • Taping: The application of special tape to support injured areas, reduce swelling, and promote healing.
  • Hot & Cold Packs: Used to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote circulation, aiding in faster recovery.

Why Choose Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to health, focusing not only on treating pain but also on improving overall well-being. Whether you’re experiencing chronic discomfort or looking for preventive care, chiropractic treatments offer a personalized solution. With its wide range of techniques, chiropractic care is suitable for people of all ages, from infants to seniors, and can help address a variety of physical issues.

By choosing chiropractic care, you’re opting for a natural, drug-free approach to better health. It’s a proactive way to manage pain, prevent further injury, and lead a more fulfilled lifestyle.

If you’re experiencing any of the conditions mentioned above or simply want to improve your overall health, consider booking a consultation with a qualified chiropractor today!

Sync Chiropractic: INFANT BODYWORK

WHAT IS BODYWORK?

In Bodywork treatment, the chiropractor uses hands-on touch and physical active therapy to allow the baby’s soft tissues to release myofascial tension and reorganize. During an infant bodywork session the patient should not experience pain or discomfort. Generally, infants find physical touch pleasant and relaxing. At times, babies may cry due to stimulation during the treatment. Please do not feel concerned if the baby reacts to the new stimulation. If you are worried feel free to ask the doctor any questions during the treatment.

BODYWORK - Chiropractic, The Woodlands/Spring area
BODYWORK – Chiropractic, The Woodlands/Spring area

Typically, a Bodywork session will last approximately 30 minutes or less. A normal Bodywork treatment plan will be 1 to 4 visits before frenectomy surgery and possibly 1 to 4 visits after surgery.

Bodywork is performed by a professional healthcare worker such as an osteopath, chiropractor, occupational therapist and physical therapist who have been trained in craniosacral therapy that help infants develop without tension. These Bodywork administrators relieve tension in the infant’s body while strengthening and lengthening the muscles needed for breathing and breastfeeding. Bodywork assists in the development of neurological integration. This process is when the baby learns to control their body and movements with ease and without tension. During the birthing process whether it is natural, Caesarean or mechanical assisted births, neurological systems are decreased due to trauma. Bodywork can help redress this trauma giving the baby the natural stimuli they may have missed during the birthing process.

WHY THE NEED FOR BODYWORK?

As mentioned above, the birthing process is a traumatic event for the infant. Nowadays, many babies emerge into this world with unnatural assistance. With this type of assistance, the babies do not benefit from the natural process of childbirth which causes their autonomic system to turn on, therefore, they are birthed with extreme tension. This is commonly known as “armoring”. This can cause the newborn difficulty in breathing, breastfeeding and limited movement of the chest, upper back, neck and mouth.

Bodywork interprets armoring as an issue of tightness of certain muscles and body parts. With this issue, babies may be oversensitive to touch suggesting in a particular area (i.e., tongue tie and lip tie). Bodyworkers seek to locate the root areas of tension and gently stimulate these areas through touch, allowing the fascia and connective tissues to relax and dissipate to relieve the infant’s symptoms.

WHY IS BODYWORK IMPORTANT FOR TONGUE & LIP-TIED INFANTS?

In today’s society, babies currently spend a lot of time in one position in utero. Due to trauma during the birthing process, infants may be born with torticollis (asymmetrical tension of the head & neck). Torticollis can continue to affect the connective tissue in the newborn as well as the shape of the head and facial muscles after birth. As mentioned before, modern birthing practices can place strain, tension and torsions on infant’s bodies causing them potential issues in the start of their new life. Even after birth, parents unknowingly halt their children’s natural development with immobilization (i.e., car seats, swings, swaddling, bouncers and strollers, etc.).

These issues can easily be addressed by Bodywork, particularly tongue & lip-tied babies with breathing and feeding problems. Bodywork can help improve the negative effects that tongue & lip-tie present. Less tension in the mouth, neck and head can provide improved movement pre-surgery making surgery easier on the baby and further success with healing afterwards. Bodywork is most useful being performed before and after frenectomy surgery.
